Hey Cynthia, You’ve been featured on numerous blogs and facebook pages as hair & Style inspiration…how do you feel about this? 

 

Supremely flattered. I never can quite believe it. Just a few years back, I don’t think this would have happened, I was at a different place and I didn’t feel good about myself. The moment I started thinking differently and embracing what makes me, me…I started getting so much positive feedback. I really appreciate all the love.

 

 

 

 

Hair Questions:

 

Have you always been natural? If not when did you ‘go natural’?

 

Oh boy, I think it was early to mid 2010. I didn’t quite big chop…just transitioned. The first few months were torture, then it got easier and easier. There’s still some bad hair days though…that never goes away.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What would you say your go-to hairstyle is?

 

Twist out pinned up. I do that a lot. I generally like my hair up and away. More people compliment me when its out and big but i have this thing about hair on my neck…which is why I don’t think I’ll ever grow my hair any longer than current length…I’m actually thinking of cutting it a little bit more….who knows.

 

 

 

 

Your favourite hair products?

 

I like this question because I think I finally have it down to a science. Disclaimer- we all have different hair and this is solely what has worked for me up to this point. The Shea moisture line especially the Shampoo & Leave in conditioner. Garnier triple nutrition spray,  Natural oils in the form of Coconut oil & Argan Oil, Shea butter and honey and Organix Coconut milk mousse for my twist outs.  For Treatments etc, I play around with different things…if I have extra cash…I try Moroccan oil and Ojon. I’m not committed to any of them but I’ll treat myself every blue moon if I think my hair needs a little extra love. Can’t quite say I’m sure they’re worth the extra cash.

 

One piece of advice you would give someone thinking of going natural…

 

Patience, patience, patience. Youtube and bloggers are your friend. The first few months is about learning and experimenting and you might get frustrated. If you can purchase your products from stores that offer refunds (I think Duane Reade does offer refunds, even if you’ve used some and Sephora does as well). This way you can try stuff and return it if it doesn’t work for you. Once you find something that works, don’t be scared to commit. Otherwise, you’ll just keep on spending and experimenting and that can get unnecessarily expensive and time consuming.

 

 

 

 

Style Questions:

 

How would you describe your personal style?

 

Relaxed, comfortable, affordable but chic…lol.  I don’t quite know. I can go from trendy to classic… my style changes depending on mood, season or occasion. I buy items I like and only later figure out how they fit into my wardrobe or an outfit. I do love bright colours and prints…that’s always a given.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Where would you say you draw style inspiration from?

 

It used to be magazines, now its mostly other bloggers, people on the street, girlfriends that have great style even TV shows especially for my work-wear ..I want my work wardrobe to be increasingly like Julianna Marguiles on the Good Wife.. power suits, pencil skirts and sheath dresses. 

 

 

 

 

Would you say your style has changed since you’ve been natural?

 

My style has definitely changed since I went natural, but I think its attributable to many factors. Some of which were part of why I went natural. Just being more comfortable, getting older, even the act of blogging has helped change and shape my style. The feedback I’ve been able to get from readers, friends and other bloggers has been helpful and influential.

 

 

 

 

 

I love your blog especially because of some of your Etsy features! What would you say your favourite Etsy find is?

 

There’s been many, but the ones that started it all, my wedding veil and our wedding bands. Those are the most precious.
